What is Botox?
Botox is a drug called botulinum toxin, which temporarily prevents the muscles from working by blocking the connection between the nerve and the muscle in the area where it is applied. Although it is commonly known as snake venom in society, this is wrong. It is a drug obtained by purifying the bacterial toxin called 'Clostridium Botulinum' using laboratory techniques. It is applied by injecting appropriate doses to the needed area with fine needles.
How many types of botox are there?
Currently, there are three FDA-approved brands, Botox®, Dysport® and NABOTA®, containing botulinum toxin in our country.
What are the Botox application areas?
- Facial botox: It is applied on the forehead, around the eyes (crow's feet) and between the eyebrows. It is very effective in removing wrinkles due to mimics.
- Jaw (masseter) botox: It can also be applied to thin the face oval and reduce the complaints of clenching teeth.
- Sweating botox: It is the application to prevent armpit and palm soles sweating.
How long does Botox last?
Persistence varies from person to person. It can be said that it is permanent for an average of 4 months in facial applications. This period may be longer in armpit sweating botox. The effect may last shorter in people who use their facial muscles more.
